As for the cost of restoration, if I spent the same amount on a new piano I would not have piano of the quality that would last for a hundred years or more, like my Krakauer. Based on serial number, my piano is 1896. They estimate it will take 12-16 months to completely restore the piano to original condition. I am sending my piano to The Antique Piano Shop () which is located in TN. So restoring it gives me a beautiful piece of furniture, allows me to preserve a piece of family history, and gives me a wonderful piano to play as well. ![]() Mine has great sentimental value as well. My feeling is that, yes, it costs a great deal to restore it but it was made as a piece of fine furniture as well as a musical instrument. I understand they were quality instruments and one of the few piano companies to survive the Great Depression. I am looking at restoring my Krakauer upright as well.
